Is there a way to search existing shape generators? I've lost some of my favorites from the "pre-Beta" version of TinkerCad. I dread paging through every page of the community shape generators to find them. How can I search for a term like "fillet" or "gear" ?

Wayne Losey Official comment Currently, we don't have a way to search inside the Shape Gen area, although this is a feature we have discussed adding.
Was it easier for you to find the parts when they were on pages as in the v1 editor?
In the near term, you might try marking your parts by ticking the little star on the shapes you use most. This will cause them to show up in your Favorites menu at the bottom of your part options.
Hope that helps for now.

Cleared The pages were a bit easier. I do tick the star, but for some reason, all of the ones I had ticked disappeared from my list. (Perhaps this was related to the change from V1 to Beta?) There was another view I used (I forget what it was) that I sometimes used to estimate what page the generator was on.
-
Cleared I think this would be a useful feature especially if there was a way for the author of the generator to attach some keywords to the generator, then if you wanted to keep the search functionality simple, it could be limited to keywords.
-
Wayne Losey As I mention in another thread, this is a feature group we are reviewing currently. This requires us to improve the search and categorization functionality across the entire site.
Stay tuned as we continue to add functionality in these areas.
As always, thanks for the feedback.

Cleared I started one in legacy and can't find it in normal

Can you open a Legacy model and see if the shape you are looking for is listed in the 'Your Shape Gnerators' drop down menu? If you saved the shape, it should show up in this area.
If it is in that menu, then it should also be available in the 'Your Shape Generators' menu in the default editor. Are you clicking into the 'Basic Shapes' drop down menu to show other shape options? See below.

Tgreenleaf Tgreenleaf When will the search feature be enabled?
-
Wayne Losey tgreenleaf,
We are currently working on updating search across the entire site.
The Shapes panel won't be one of the first areas where its exposed, but its toward the top of the list.
Hang in there, its coming.
-
Tgreenleaf Tgreenleaf That's great to hear. I don't mean to be a pain but I read a comment from two years ago that said searching within shapes/generators is coming soon. Do you know an approximate timeline for this feature?
-
Wayne Losey Sorry, Tgreenleaf, but, as you mention, trying to predict a timeline apparently backfired for both of us 2 years ago.
So best to not say more than that we're actively working on search across the site and this will be one of the areas it will eventually be added.
And, no, lol, it will not take another 2 years. :)

John Sadler "Your Shape Generators" has disappeared, leaving me with no effective way to see the shape generators I've developed. Help!
-
Cleared JWSadler - Did you look under the drop-down menu that defaults to "Basic Shapes"? Note the little triangle to the right indicating it's a drop down menu. I see shape generators under there.
While I like the drop down menu better than the old scrolling list, the title could be improved to be a bit more descriptive, rather than just using the first list entry as the title. For example, somthing that displays the title "Shapes Menu" no matter what you have selected, with another line below that indicates the menu category you currently have selected.
-
John Sadler mcnerneyjp - Yes, of course. There is no item called "Your Shape Generators" there. You have to look through the whole ocean of them to find those you've authored.
-
Cleared Sorry, misread your comment
-
Wayne Losey JWSadler,
As you can see, we have updated the interface. So you have no category called 'Your Shape generators' in the drop down?
Can you take a screen grab so I can share with the dev team and see if we can identify where the problem lies?
It just occurred to me. Are you in the Legacy/V1 workspace or the current V2 workspace?
-
Wayne Losey Just wanted to let you know that we have fixed the issue with Favorites retaining your selections.
Also, in terms of your original question, search in the Shape Panel should be coming in the nearish future, so please keep an eye out for it.

John Sadler Screen shots are available in this adjacent post:
https://support.tinkercad.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360001516614--Your-Shape-Generators-MissingThanks for your help. This appears to be a page design problem - the section does appear for me when the browser is in full screen view, but not otherwise

Artium Nihamkin Hey!
Did you eventually decide to abandon the search feature? There are 17 pages in the "all" category and it is really tiresome to go over all of them in order to find the shape I am looking for.
-
James Sorenson (sigh) So, yet another 2+ years and still no search? Oof...I'm not sure it's worth working on a shape generator if others can't find it...including possibly myself! If search is too difficult, maybe we could at least add some categories?
-
Wayne Losey Interesting that you ask. We are currently working on adding categories to the Shape Panel and small steps toward search.
We know its taken forever, but there was a lot of prework that we needed to do to enable it.
Keep an eye on the Shape Panel in the coming weeks to see some clues about where we are heading.

Thor Chrisitan Just want to add my name to the list of users waiting for the search feature.
I have seen many useful generators, that i forgot to favorite. and i am unable to find them anymore.
