I made my name using the text block from the basic shapes. Its in the "Multilanguage" font, but when I group it, it appears as "Serif". Ungrouping changes it back. Also, when I don't group and just download the .stl for 3D Printing, it shows up as Serif (I'm using autodesk print studio). Is there a way to keep it as the Multilanguage font? Otherwise did doesn't fit in the model...

Christian Official comment I cannot reproduce this...but I believe you. Please post a URL for me to recreate it.
Can you try the other Text shape generator. The one from the Basic Shapes category? Does this Text shape change font when grouped?

Christian James,
Can you provide a link where this issue is happening? We can investigate it for you.

James_4007 Heres a link to my project where its happening if thats what you mean: https://www.tinkercad.com/things/4PexpuTbsAh-nfm-110/editv2

spillman ipads I am having the same issue. How was this resolved?

Cleared I am also experiencing this issue and am curious if it was ever resolved?

(I hope that you can access this link, please let me know if I need to do something else to make that possible)
I was using the TEXT option from the basic shapes. I am trying to make it look like binary code and the only font that I like the look of is MULTILANGUAGE.
When I try to delete part of the font (using a "hole") as either a group or even when it is isolated it keeps changing the font, which I am finding incredibly frustrating.
Thank you so much for responding so promptly to my enquiry.

Cleared Yep. This is so annoying. Did they come up with a fix? Here is an image which shows 2 simple objects on the left (a solid rectangle and hollow text) that is ungrouped. As soon as you group them to have the text cut out the font changes. Grrrr...

Cleared Sadly as yet I have heard nothing..... ended up typing in illustrator then importing the text as a "shape" to get around the problem.

edhornst edhornst I just had this problem and found the thread--interestingly, I know that I have previously done this type of operation many times before and not had the issue, so it seems to be sporadic. I wonder if it has to do with the other object types being used? Regardless, for this project I found that switching to the 'Custom Font Text' generator currently on the 2nd page of shape generators when set to view all will produce editable text that does not have this problem. The custom generator has a default sans serif that is similar-ish to the default sans from the main generator, but the actualt thing it's there for is to extrude text based on a graphic you upload, so you can of course do that as well, similarly to the workaround one of the original posters mentioned. Would love it for tinkercad to fix the main bug however.

Christian Hello, if you have this happening, please post a URL of the design for us to troubleshoot it. So far we cannot reproduce it on our side, so it is a hard bug to pin down.

edhornst edhornst Hi Christian, thanks for the reply. Below is a URL of the project on which I observed the issue; I have moved my existing items aside and put a demo object on the stage that you're welcome to modify as much as you need to. The upper text object is created with the 'custom font' generator from the advanced menu, and the lower text object is created with the standard 'text' generator from the basic menu. If the errorr is being replicated, you should see that when you group those three objects together the top text works normally but the bottom text converts to a serif font once the grouping is completed.

Thanks for the link. This is a very elusive bug, since I don't see the text change on grouping. When I open that link, however, I see the text is defined as "multilanguage" which has serifs. Is this what you set it to?
Also, some info that may help is what hardware, browser are you on? Do you have any language settings..ie. is English a second language set on the browser?

edhornst edhornst Hi Christian, here is a link to a screengrab of the issue occuring for me; I am using Safari v11.0.1 on a 2015 macbook air runing High Sierra 10.13.1. Because I've done this operation successfully on other projects in the same browser it hadn't occurred to me to try another browser, but I'll give it a shot. Multilanguage font for me does not usually appear with serifs--that could be something interesting, unless we just have different definitions of what a serif is.

Christian Thanks, that helps...now I can reproduce it. It is a Safari bug...not present on Chrome.

Cleared Hi there. I have the same issue in Chrome as well.
Chrome version 70.0.3538.77 (64-bit) (Norwegian)
Windows 7 64-bit. -
magicmike2x magicmike2x I'm using Chrome and I ran into this issue today.
Thank you edhornst edhornst for the workaround!
-
Cleared Happens on Chrome too! We have the same issue using Tinkercad on Chrome - how do you fix it?
-
Cleared Still happening. file is in 'multilanguage' (blocky no serif) whatever way you export it it has a serif, Safari or Chrome, doesnt matter, SOLUTION please?!
-
edhornst edhornst I still have this problem in Safari as well; other than doing the 'custom font' thing I described previously, you can also use the curved/circular font settings. I also have been able reopen the object in Firefox, ungroup, and regroup, and that seems to work. You should record object dimensions so you can re-enter it because it will change the width of the letters when you do that. Not sure why that wouldn't work in Chrome, but it worked in Firefox as recently as yesterday.
-
Cleared The custom font seems to be set to Upper Case letters, so that was no good. I wanted the look of the multilanguage text template with the option to be lower or upper case. Switching between Firefox and Chrome or Safari seems a little ridiculous, Im sure the techs at Tinkercad can iron this issue out with relative ease if they just get on with it. Seems theyve been aware of it for over a year and a half now
-
edhornst edhornst cnew13 I'm right there with you, seems like the problem has been verified by them multiple times but never corrected. I really like tinkercad for 90% of the 3d design I need to do but the level of support/ tendency to suddenly remove/change features is a little off, free product or not.

Permanently deleted user Hello, I am having this text grouping problem on Chrome Version 70.0.3538.102 (Official Build) (64-bit)
-
Hestefania Torrado Same here with Internet Explorer (sorry haha)
-
Richard Belotte I too am having this issue. On a mac, using chrome.
-
Axl Rose I just reported this to Tinkercad "ticket system" too, having this issue as of today on Chrome 70.0 and Safari on High Sierra Mac....
Geez! :(

No No As the 'sans' text looks very similar apart from its width, if you change the bevel option to 0.5 and do no segments it widens the font for some reason and creates a very similar style. Not sure why this works as it probably shouldn't, but hey it works. I do realize though that this is not the way it should be but until this is fixed this is a pretty good option.
