Import SVG, non closed shape problem

looking for some advice on importing an svg file.  The vector drawing is simply a single line drawn into a circle with a gap

(bit like the letter C).  However, when imported to tinkercad, I see a filled shape - like a cylinder with a flatted edge.  I was looking for a tube with a slot down one side...

I'm not actually trying to create such, but had gone down from the original drawing ( a signature) to this simple shape as a test.

It seems that Tinkercad wants to close open shapes - I've included the shape, and the object that appears - can anyone please tell me if Tinkercad expects closed shapes, or any other suggestion as to how I might get an open line to import correctly.   Many thanks...
